We all know how to “want” something. To have a goal. That’s the easy part and it requires zero effort. Making it happen, however, is all about following through. Do these three things and you’ll increase your chances dramatically…
1. Get clear
Okay you want something. That’s great! Now, answer these in writing:
- What exactly do you want? Can you describe it in a way so that anyone could understand it? Good: I want to lose weight. Far better: I want to lose 16 pounds by Sept 1st.
- Why do you want it?
- What happens if you don’t achieve it?
2. Create your plan
- What actions do you need to take to get started? For example, getting a yoga membership
- What time can I block off for this daily / weekly?
- What’s your timeline
3. Have a goal partner (and ask for help!)
Find someone who’s going to keep you accountable. Someone who will get you to “show up” again and again (and you for them). This means checking in with you daily or weekly, helping you through the hard times, and keeping you focused. It doesn’t have to be complicated. A simple daily text can work wonders. Having someone support and encourage you along the way will keep you on track, and that’s what it takes.
